Skills Group for

Young Women

There is HOPE.  Learn important coping skills to attain and maintain recovery from unhealthy body image and disordered eating behaviors including restricting, binging, unhealthy elimination of calories  and emotional/compulsive overeating within a supportive group environment. This weekly 21-session group will cover healthy coping skills:

and EDEN, the Eating Disorders Education Network, a Michigan-based non-profit (www.edenclub.org) a support network for individuals seeking recovery from unhealthy body image and disordered eating behaviors.
The group is based on Coping Skills For Recovery, an EDEN Process developed from the ideas and experiences of recovered individuals combined with current research-based intervention models

Rise Above Overeating:

A Support Group

Freedom from food, fat, dieting, and bingeing

 Find strength and encouragement from meeting with fellow women struggling with over eating….Find insight and empowerment from professional therapists specializing in disordered eating….Change what has since seemed impossible:  your relationship with food and your body…find a peaceful mind and spirit.

Themes will include: breaking the diet/binge cycle, outer vs. inner solutions, how to deal with feelings, acceptance, food as metaphor, loving limits, how to relate to food with freedom, what is healthy, how to achieve healthy.

Topics in the group will be based on be pulled from the strength of the Don’t Diet, Live-It curriculum (LoBue, Marcus) as well as Eating in the Light of the Moon (Anita Johnston).  This group is appropriate for women struggling in a variety of ways with their relationship with food. 

This support and process group will be led by Tori Rodrigues, MA, and Mandi Peek, MS, LPC. 

When:  Monday evenings, 6:00-7:30                                                       Fall 2004 Session:  September - November (10 week commitment)

Education and Support Seminar

 

 The range of the disordered eating spectrum—overeating, body image, anorexia, bulimia, exercise/ diet addiction—affects not only the struggling individual but family, friends, and all areas of support.  The purpose of this seminar is to serve any person in support of an individual struggling with disordered eating. 

 

No doubt you have found that there are so many questions unanswered, valid fears and frustrations, and such a loss as to what to do.

 

This seminar is designed to answer questions, empower you to help, guard you from wounds to yourself and your family, and support you as you support your loved one.  It is an educational seminar, meant to assist in understanding recovery.  Confidential specifics of cases are not employed in the discussion. 

 

Sample topics to be covered:

*What are eating disorders?                                            * How can we help?                                              *Where do they come from?                                  *What is the course of recovery?                *Who/What is to blame?                                *Appropriate boundaries                                          *How can they be prevented?                                         * Is it really about food?                                         *What are the real dangers and risks?
